Brief knowledge about golf iron headcovers

As a businesswoman who has been working in the golf industry for seven years, I would like to share with you some brief knowledge of golf iron headcover today.

1-

First, the style of golf iron headcover.

As the photo shown below, there are several several styles of golf iron headcovers:

1-the style of golf iron headcover.IMG_8918-333

A: Longer shape. The width of this longer shape is generally 1.5 cm. It is usually closed with zipper.

B: Special style, the girth of special style is generally very wide(around 4.5cm), there will be a piping at the top, usually closed with velcro.

C: Conventional widening model, this one is similar as the most popular one but the girth is generally 1.5 cm wide.

D: Conventional style, this one is the most common one in all iron headcovers, two pieces of material can be combined with edge wrapping or piping. Closure can be magnet or velcro, or even none.

E: Neoprene material style. Neoprene is also known as SBR. SBR material is cheaper than PU, and it is very light. It is convenient to put on or take off on the club. Neoprene headcover are normally smaller size than other styles. There are also some different types of neoprene iron headcovers (see photo below):

E-1: Two pieces of material, sew with nylon thread.

E-2: One whole piece of material, with big visible pvc transparent window.

E-3:Three pieces of material, with smaller visible pvc transparent window.

F:genuine leather special design. This style is rarely seen. And usually they are made of split leather(much stiffer)

G:Headcover for full set of irons. This headcover is like a big pouch that used for full set of iron clubs(6-11pcs).

2-

Second, the material of golf iron headcovers.

As the photo shown below, there are many kinds of materials for golf iron headcovers. The followed are commonly used:

A: PU, namely poly urethane. PU has many kinds of patterns. The one shown on the picture is carbon fibre pattern. PU material has many different thickness, 0.8-1.0 mm  is better suitable for making iron headcovers. If its too thin then it will be easy to get wrinkle, and its shape is not good either. If its too thick it will be very hard to make the headcover.

Because of its durability, PU material can be embroidered, printed, embossed, or added with some other accessories,.

B: Special PU. There are many different types of special PU with animal skin texture, such as snake skin texture, elephant skin texture, crocodile skin texture. Using this type of material will makes the headcover fashionable and particular exquisite.

C: Geunine Leather. The genuine leather has full-grain and split one. The full-grain is the first layer of the leather, its softr and more expensive. The split leather is the second layer, its stiffer and cheaper than the full grain, But no matter which is used, the genuine leather cover will cost much more than other.

And to further into the genuine leather, as everyone knows, the genuine leather is irregular in shape, so will will waste a lot if taking it as the binding of the cover. People use micro-fiber material- which is very durable, but also expensive-as the binding.

D: Plain cloth, which is a common polyester material, is relatively cheap and suitable for large orders. Generally the order will go with more than 5000 sets.

E: Neoprene(SBR). SBR also has different types: with or without texture. Generally, the initial order is more than 1000 sets if using neoprene. The unit price of neoprene iron headcover is relatively low, but it seems that different countries have extreme attitudes towards the iron covers. Some countries accept this, but others not. As far as I am concerned, only a few countries in Southeast Asia (such as Singapore, Korea, Japan) and the United States likes the neoprene cover. Strange, isn’t it?

F. Mesh material(also known as Sandwich mesh). This material is usually used on the back of the iron cover as to reduce costs. Or if someone needs to cut down the cost, they would choose it.

And of course, there are still many other types of materials and I just introduce some common ones here.

3-

Third, the closure of the golf iron headcover.

There are several kinds of closures for golf iron headcovers:

A: Velcro. This is most common used for iron headcovers. I personally think this take up for 90%.

B: Magnets. Magnet closures are expensive and difficult to produce. Less customers will choose it. They are used for high-end iron covers. I personally think this accounting for about 5%.

C: Zippers. Zipper closure are generally used in Style A (mentioned above).

D: Blank. Some customers choose blank closure, that is, no magnets nor Velcro nor other.

4-

Finally, I'd like to share with you two ways to make the edge of iron covers, as follows:

4- two ways to make the edge of iron coversIMG_8944-333

A: The Binding type-wrapping the two pieces together by a machine.

B: The Piping type-The piping type is more complex. It need to turn the cover inside out after sewing. So its more expensive than the binding type.
