R & A, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, founded in 1754, has long been the governing body of golf. Its golf rules are still used by thousands of golf courses in the world. In 1897, R & A compiled the formal golf rules, and in the next 30 years, it was invited to manage and operate the tournaments of many other courses, and its influence became increasingly strong. At the same time, R & A has always been involved in the formulation of rules and regulations of golf tools, that is to say, it also defines the production standards of golf tools and related industrial chains.
In 1986, R & A founded the professional golfer world ranking list, and in 2007, it founded the amateur golfer world ranking list. So far, these two ranking lists represent the authority. Since 2004, R & A has made an important internal adjustment and separated an independent organization, the R & A, which is responsible for the operation of events and the formulation of rules. Since then, the R & A club has focused on the club's internal Membership Affairs, such as the voting decision mentioned above to end the all male membership system, while the R & A, which has extensive interaction with the outside world, manages the golf rules and related events outside the United States and Mexico.
The R & A has set up eight committees, which are responsible for the following eight matters:
1) rules and tools;
2) course management;
3) competition;
4) amateur players;
5) golf development;
6) external funds;
7) general affairs;
8) research.
At the same time, the R & A organizes and hosts 11 competitions, including the famous British Open, which is also an important reason why R & A can cancel murfield club as the rotation qualification of "British Open" in a few minutes.
The R & A organizes and hosts 11 competitions as follows:
1) British Open;
2) British Amateur Open;
3) Junior Amateur Open;
